The price list no one shows you
If you're uninsured, underinsured, or facing a procedure your plan won't cover, you're a self-pay patient. And self-pay pricing in the US is a different universe than what insurance companies negotiate behind closed doors.

Typical 2026 self-pay ranges compiled from published hospital, industry, and medical tourism sources. Individual pricing varies by case complexity and clinic.
Why self-pay is the new normal
You might think self-pay patients are a small group. They're not. In 2026, self-pay is the default for a huge swath of American healthcare:
medical debt
ACA subsidy expiration
“underinsured”
Even if you have insurance, most cosmetic, dental, fertility, and vision procedures aren't covered. You're paying the full price out of your own pocket. The only question is which full price you pay.
What accredited means — and why it matters for self-pay
When you're paying cash, you can't rely on an insurance company to vet your provider. That's where international accreditation becomes your safety net.
JCI (Joint Commission International) is the global gold standard — the same organization that accredits Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and Johns Hopkins. Colombia has six JCI-accredited hospitals. These facilities are audited against 1,200+ measurable quality and safety elements covering surgical safety, medication management, infection control, and patient rights.
Board certification matters too. Colombian plastic surgeons certified by the SCCP (Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugía Plástica) complete 5+ years of specialty training after medical school. Many complete additional fellowships in the US or Europe. Their credentials are verifiable online.
Self-pay doesn't mean unprotected. It means you choose your protections directly — by choosing accredited facilities and certified surgeons — rather than delegating that decision to an insurance company that may not have your best interests at heart.
